Seeing our impact,
that's living.

Meet Kelli. She's a typical military spouse: Flexible, adaptable, a problem solver.
The perfect fit for so many roles at Sevita.

Name: Kelli Estepp
Role: Manager, Employee Referral Program
Tenure: 3 Years

“I tell recruiters, if you can ever hire a military spouse, they’ve been through it all.
There’s probably nothing that would surprise them."

Kelli knows first-hand the skills set you build as a military spouse that help you and your family adapt and thrive. It’s the same skills and approach that makes Sevita a great place to work for military spouses: Flexibility, adaptability, organization, independence.

“I bought a house in Alaska and my husband moved to his new assignment in Korea three days later. So I was setting up my home in a new location, I was also expecting my second child (I already had a toddler), I was looking for a new job, my family was in another state – Michigan – so a lot of adaptability was needed. You have to be independent. My husband left on assignment for 14 months, I had a baby and raised both kids. It’s just a whole different skill set.”

So what attracted you to Sevita? Do you have a personal connection?
“Honestly the reason why I came was the mission. I love everything Sevita stands for. If you’re somebody who is looking to help people, there are just so many different ways that you can do that for people here.

Why do you think Sevita is a great place to work for military spouses? What’s the value of working with us, and what are the career growth opportunities?
There’s a couple of them. One, we’re so vast, we’re across so many different states so chances are you can stay with the company if your spouse gets orders to move to another state. Sevita has facilities in different areas. So the possibility of being able to transfer within Sevita to a new location is big.

The other piece is growth. Beyond growing statewide we’re growing our scope of business and that brings with it opportunities for growth in different positions. You could be a young military spouse who starts with us as a DSP, and have the opportunity to explore different roles the company, grow within the organization, and even be promoted to senior level—that’s a a real possibility here. We have senior leaders across the company that started their careers as caregivers with Sevita. So you can get hired in one position and then explore further opportunities.

What are the professional roles here that might be a good fit for military spouses?
We have a lot of military and military spouses in the company who have degrees in various areas. We’ve got IT positions, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Nurses, Therapists, BCBA’s, Nutritionists…

My daughter’s a great example of that. She has her CNA, EMT and LPN. She was military active duty but is retired and now a spouse of an active military service member. So she could be an LPN, a CNA or other caregiver roles. For roles like Program Supervisors or Regional Directors, people who have experience managing others or managing programs could be a great fit. Or a military spouse might consider applying for an Office Coordinator role, because many of them have admin and computer skills that you need to be working at a front desk.

As a military spouse and team member here at Sevita, do you have any recommendations or advice to share with other military spouses?
"With the size and breadth of the company the possibilities are endless!"

And I'd like to invite them (spouses) to come to one of our hiring events or online career events and just listen, because this might be a step in a career field you’ve never thought about before and you don’t know until you check it out. Maybe our mission resonates with you just like it did with us. Maybe you just don’t know what we have, you know? So come in and see what the different potential opportunities are for you, because especially younger people who are trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives, this might be a calling for you. You don’t know until you check us out.
